Berger Audiology, LLC

A lot of you know that my wife, Dr. Rebecca Berger (Becky), has been an audiologist working at The Hearing Clinic, under Otorhinolaryngology, Inc. for over 25 years.  (Both of those entities are now under Allied Physicians of Michiana, also known as APOM.)  This Spring she decided to go out on her own and is starting Berger Audiology, LLC.  She had always hoped to convince The Hearing Clinic to expand the services in Plymouth, but they never saw the potential that she did.  The parting was as amicable as those things can be.  Becky is in the process of finding a location for her new practice, purchasing equipment, developing a logo, developing a website and all the other fun things that go along with starting a new business.

Grandpa Murphy turns 101

(Bill) Murphy, turned 101 yesterday.  Unfortunately he’s out at Miller’s Merry Manor, but he is doing pretty well for his age.  Better than a lot of younger residents there!  In any case, if you would like to wish him a Happy Birthday, he enjoys the company and has more than a few stories to tell.

The selfie to the right is grandpa with his great granddaughter and my niece, Kyanne.  (Not being a selfie person, can anyone tell me why selfies reverse the picture???)  Kyanne came up from Bloomington to join the party.  We had cake and ice cream.  The cake was big enough to share with the rest of the residents.

Hopefully I will luck out with a few of his good genes and more than a few of his good traits!  He’s always been a gentleman and someone of which I’m proud.

Kathy & Will Peason’s Retirement Party

We had a retirement party for Will & Kathy Pearson on Saturday night.  Kathy was with Easterday Construction for over 38 years and Will was here somewhere around 25 years. As discussed in a previous post here, they will be missed.

Almost everyone in the crew was able to come out for the party.  We shared a lot of memories and everyone had a good time.

Clip that Makes Me Laugh

In the world of text messages and 140 character Tweets, I find the use of LOL (Laugh Out Loud) and the more definitive LMAO (Look it up yourself!) or the entirely unlikely ROFLMAO (again, you look it up) to be way over used.  I have a pretty good sense of humor, but it takes a lot to make me laugh out loud and I have to say, ROFLMAO has never happened…  I’m more of a smirker at heart.

That said, Becky had I started watching Ridiculousness on MTV a while back and we’ve both been inspired to laugh out loud.  Occasionally there was alcohol contributing to that, but still we’ve found some pretty funny things on there.  People can be idiots and people apparently don’t mind publicizing their idiocy for their Andy Warhol 15 minutes of fame.  The clip to the right is of a brother sneaking up on his napping sister and waking her with a vacuum cleaner.  Seeing it the first time was a Laugh Out Loud moment that I had to run back and forth several times with the DVR.  I still smile looking at it as it see it here!  While the show revels in people doing physical harm to themselves, there are lots of moments like this too.

And who knew that bulldogs had such a propensity for skateboarding? (If you need a smile and have some time to kill, Google “Skateboarding Bulldogs” and look at the images or do the same at YouTube for some hilarious videos.

Anyway, here you go with a post of very little redeeming value, but when I ran across the clip, I had to share.  One final warning – if you decide to check out Ridiculousness, be prepared for Chanel’s laugh.  It’s something right out of a Chip ‘n Dale cartoon!

Dr. Ronald Liechty

Easterday Construction Co., Inc. lost another good friend last week with the passing of the Reverend Dr. Ronald Liechty.  As President of Garden Court, Ron was a client through the seven Garden Court projects Easterday Construction Co., Inc. has completed.  As often happens with good people, Ron also quickly became a friend.  You often hear the accolade, “He’s a gentleman and a scholar.”  That was Ron.

Along with our interaction on Garden Court projects I also had the opportunity to work with Ron through our mutual involvement in PIDCO, MCCF and the Community Resource Center.  Among various other groups to which Ron volunteered his time, Ron set the bar very high in his examples of volunteerism, philanthropy and community leadership.  I had the opportunity to attend his retirement party when he left the Presidency of Garden Court and his 80th birthday party.  The number of people in attendance at both events and the uproaring of goodwill shared there was testament to how he had touched many lives in the community.  Ron’s ability to lead and to find amicable resolutions will be missed.  I counted Ron as a personal friend who will not be replaceable.  I want to extend my personal condolences as well those of the Easterday Construction Co., Inc. family to Ron’s family.  I’m sure they’re aware of how many lives he’s touched but this is just a reminder of how he touched ours.
