Anyone that doesn’t think the proposed stormwater project on the west side of Culver is required should talk to this guy stranded in the middle of Lake Shore Drive. Granted, plowing through a flooded street with water that tops the sidewalk on either side could be worthy of a Darwin Award, but generally this isn’t what you expect in town.
Last night was the Vision Workshop for the Culver Comprehensive Plan. I’ve been calling this effort 20/20 vision for Culver for a while now. Unfortunately with the poor turn out last night, our vision may require a stronger prescription! Less than 30 people turned out for last night’s meeting. That’s pretty dismal. There were three Plan Commission members there, but only one Redevelopment Commission member and no Town Council members. The overall poor attendance is probably due to poor advertising, but it’s unfortunate that our community leaders aren’t getting involved. I’m not in tune with all of the local groups, but I was disappointed that only one Chamber board member was there who was also the only Second Century Committee board member. That was particularly disappointing considering the leadership role SCC took in the previous Comprehensive Plan. I couldn’t identify any of the Lions Club Board, Kiwanis Board, Boys & Girls Club Board, etc. Maybe that apathy in and of itself says a lot about Culver’s future…
As discussed previously here, we went to the Run For Your Lives event in Knightstown last weekend to watch our nieces Sarina and Samantha do the 5k zombie obstacle course with Sarina’s sister-in-law, Katy. They had a good time running and we had a good time watching. Aside from 5 kilometers of running through fields, woods and creeks, there were various obstacles such as a smoke filled room with electric shocks, monkey bars over slime pits, ladders, slides and, Oh by the way… ZOMBIES!
I have two nieces that will be participating in the Knightstown Run For Your Lives 5K run this Saturday. Sounds like it should be pretty cool! Both of them are Walking Dead fans and we have a txt’d episode discussion after each new episode airs. That along with a running joke where we rate tools, yard implements and kitchen utensils for their value and undead killing potential when the Zombie Apocalypse comes. (Did you know you could buy Zombie Survival Kits on Amazon.com?)
We’ve also had a running discussion of what their team should wear and they were considering custom t-shirts, so we’ll see what they come up with. “We taste like Broccoli” was a contender as well as “Tasty brains are Hard to Catch!” There are sites full of ready made zombie t-shirts too such as zazzle.com and and cafepress.com

It should be fun to watch and there’s supposed to be a big Apocalypse party associated with it. The website promises bands, food and games. Apparently there are enough people participating that they will be doing waves of runners and associated zombies to attack them. Becky and I will be going down to cheer them on and document the carnage! If I get any good pictures, I’ll try and put them up next week.
