Fairy Tales

The political season is well underway.  We’re only a couple of weeks from the Primaries and the rhetoric is already high.  I have high hopes for some of the candidates I’ve heard from.  I recognize the same B.S. from a lot of the others.  I hear that this is the most important election of my life…  among other hyperbole.

I plan to vote.  In a few cases, I plan to vote for someone I think will do good things.  In other cases I plan to vote for the lesser of evils, just as I have done in most elections.  I’m hoping the mood of the Country is such that we hold them to their promises this time around.

In a Magnanimous Fit…

I got an email from ASLA last Friday suggesting that I volunteer to speak at the local school since April is Landscape Architecture Month.  In what must have been some kind of a magnanimous fit I fired off an email to the Culver School Superintendent volunteering to do just that.  Wouldn’t you know it, April 23rd is Career Day at the the Culver Middle School and they were thrilled to hear that I was volunteering to speak that afternoon.  Five 20 minute rotations of about 15 students each.  Wow…

USPS Rant

Our old P.O. Box 88
Our old P.O. Box 88

Well it was a tough decision, but we’re dropping our Post Office Box.  Easterday Construction has had P.O. Box 88 as long as I can remember and possibly since before I was born!  We have some old letterhead that goes back to before any elaborate addresses were even required in Culver.  Our office was in the State Exchange Bank Building and the lumber yard was on Slate Street.  Apparently that’s all the Culver postman needed to know at that time!

For years and years, our mailing address was P.O. Box 88 and our delivery address was “The Corner of Lake Shore Drive & Slate Street”.  Then when 911 service came around the Town assigned us a street number.  402 North Slate Street…  never mind that we’re on the west side of the street and all the other numbers on the west side of the street are odd.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!

This is the last post before Christmas and I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!  I don’t know if having everything coated in ice qualifies as a white Christmas, but there’s some snow under there too.

The Christmas Pug was stolen from a card we received from Cal-Pro Fence.  Thanks guys.   Becky and I used to have a pug, though we would have never gotten A.J. to sit still long enough to wear a hat for a picture.

This has been a tough year for everyone, but I want to thank the clients that have stuck with us.  I also want to thank the ECC staff that have worked hard this year.  Here’s hoping next year is a better year for all of us!

Merry Christmas to everyone and Best Wishes for a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year!  Safe travels for those of you that will be out in the weather.  To the rest of you, be safe at home.
