Blast from the Past – Culver Academies’ Boy Scout Headquarters
At the award ceremony for Ginny earlier this month, I was reminded of Culver Academies‘ connection to the Boy Scouts of America. In 2010, we built a cabin to be used as a Boy Scouts Headquarters at the far east side of the Woodcraft Camp. The picture to the right is the cabin when it was completed. You can see some pictures of the cabin under construction here.
The cabin is a scaled down version of the Woodcraft Camp sleeping cabins, following the same basic design, but including a larger porch that doubles as a project work space and a stage for presentations. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the project was scheduled to coincide with the 100 years of scouting jamboree that was held in Washington, D.C. that year.
Over the years, Easterday Construction Co., Inc. has completed many projects at Culver Academies, from new construction to major remodels. As has been discussed here before, the origins of our company are tied to the work our founder, Russell L. Easterday, did for James I. Barnes Construction in the early 1920’s. This prompted the creation of Russell L. Easterday Construction and Supply Company as a subsidiary of Barnes Construction and the gentleman’s agreement that allowed Russell to make the subsidiary his own company.

I just found out that 8 senators have signed on to a bipartisan bill that would eliminate the time change. Their choice is to stay with Daylight Savings Time year-round, but for me, fast or slow time doesn’t matter… just stop changing it!!!
The bill at the right can be read a little easier at Senator Marco Rubio’s website here. It lays out the pros of eliminating the time change for health, safety and commerce reasons.
I plan on contacting my Indiana Senators and ask why they haven’t signed on yet! I also read that 15 states have legislation eliminating it, but they can’t unilaterally do this without Federal Approval. (here)
I’ve never liked the time change and this morning was no exception. I’m assuming I’ll be dealing with the effects of it for at least this week…

Ron Liechty was a great friend to Easterday Construction Co., Inc. We worked through 7 new Garden Court projects and multiple renovation and remodel projects. His leadership at Garden Court is missed. His leadership throughout the community is missed as well. His friendship is missed by all of us at Easterday Construction to this day.

Keep the Idiot Box Out of the

Spending time in front of the TV diverts your attention from the people around you. Consider not having a TV in your room at all. The limited time you can spend with each other will no longer be wasted watching TV.
Cover the Curtains
To make the rooms look bigger, choose curtains of light color and keep the color of the curtains and walls paired with each other. The curtains should be of the same color, not too colorful and there should not be large patterns on them. Net curtains may be an option for your room.
Make it Green & Fresh
You may have noticed in many homes that the window itself is used as storage to keep small essentials and show-pieces. This can be a place to keep plants like Neem, Tulsi, Aloe Vera, etc, which makes the bedroom look larger. This saves space and makes your room green and fresh. You can enjoy the fresh, positive vibes every morning and your day will be great!
Keep Your Old Bedroom Belongings in an Outside Quonset Huts
As you all know, when we give old bedrooms a new look. You change all the things that are in your bedroom. Don’t throw away the old items that come out of it. They can be used in future remodels or swapped out occasionally to freshen the space. One suggestion would be to store your old articles in a Quonset hut installed in your backyard. A building made of steel will protect your items from deterioration.
Integrated Wall Shelf
Install built-in wall shelving attached to the wall around the bed head. This organizes all your small items and and looks good while reducing clutter. Just put the books in a line, the photo frames, the show-pieces, and other things in a row. Keep it neat and systematically arranged.
Place the Lights at the Right
Place
Lamps have been instrumental in bedroom decor for years. You should also apply them to your bedroom. At night, the light from lamps not only better than from overhead fixtures, but the light patterns on the walls can make the room look bigger. Instead of putting lights randomly, put lights where necessary. Choose places near the study table, near the mirror, on the wall above the bed and in front of the cupboard.
With judicious use of these tips, you can improve the quality of your bedroom life and make your small bedroom inviting. Make the most of the space you have and your bedroom will become a space where you want to spend more time.
Congratulations Good Oil Company
Last year we were honored with a Half Century Award from the State of Indiana. (See previous post here.) IEDC and Governor Holcomb did a fine job with the presentation. I recently saw that friend of Easterday Construction, Good Oil Company, was honored in this year’s presentation on March 21st.
This from the official announcement: Good Oil Company, founded by Don O. Good Sr. in 1941, is a fuel jobber and owner of the Good To Go convenience store chain, which operates 16 retail locations and supplies more than 100 dealer locations. Along with giving back to the community through philanthropic events and sponsorships, Good Oil raised more than $40,000 this past summer for local schools through its “G.O. for School Safety” campaign.

We hope the Good family had the same experience of pride we did standing on the stage with the Governor. Keeping any company going for decades is an accomplishment, but keeping family businesses going through multiple generations can be even more challenging. The acknowledgement of the State and our highest State Executive was heartwarming.
