Bend in the Woods

Bend in the Woods was a multi-family apartment project completed for Area 5 Supportive Housing in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana. It was the first of several projects we have completed for Area 5, though this was the only housing project. P.T. McKinnis was superintendent on this project.

The structure was two story, conventional framing on a crawlspace with a masonry veneer. (Project delays forced a design change from slab-on-grade to crawlspace construction in order to allow the project to proceed through the winter.) One of the interesting features on this project is the entrance columns shown in the picture. The columns are full natural logs shipped in from Oregon. One of the challenges was to provide uplift anchoring for those columns without exposed fasteners. We ended up core drilling the bottoms of the columns to accomplish this.
