rejection

Rejection is never a good thing, but unfortunately it’s inevitable.  We’re putting a lot more proposals out there to get fewer jobs.  It’s making things difficult.  More effort is going into proposals that don’t move ahead, taking our time away from monitoring work that we do have.

We are still pursuing bid work, though in the current economic climate, it is rough.  It was refreshing to attend a public bid in Cass County yesterday where one of the commissioners described the set of plans and the specification that was so large as to require two spec books.  He went on to tell the audience how he appreciated the efforts of the contractors that had prepared bids and understood the hours that went into their preparation.  That’s something not often heard.

Unfortunately we were second on that project.  We were second by $135!!! …on a project that was valued at nearly $600k.  That’s tight!  And depressing!  On that project there were multiple alternates, so there is still some consideration being given by the Owner.  That fact that one of them made the statement above is heartening.  It would appear that they will give the proposals the consideration they’re due.
