Easterday Construction and I lost a good friend and client last week. We have completed multiple projects for Don and his family over the years including many for his business and his Church. Much of this was done on nothing but a handshake, going back to when Dad did the first project for him at Indiana Tool and Manufacturing Company now known as ITAMCO. When Easterday Construction did a Magazine/Brochure a few years ago, Dad and I had our pictures taken for the cover (here) in the conference room at ITAMCO. That conference room was part of the office addition we built for them.
We were trusted with several modifications and additions to the Plymouth plant besides the office addition. Through this association we were trusted with several projects Don spearheaded with the Grace Baptist Church. Through his introduction to the Church, we were contracted to do several projects including the construction of the Grace Baptist Church School and later the gymnasium addition. Our last major project for them was the remodeling of the Church restrooms – a project of which we’re very proud.
Don trusted Dad implicitly. When Dad retired, Don called me. He told me, “I always called your Dad and all I had to say was ‘Berger, get it done’. I hope I can trust you the same way.” What could I say? “Yes, Sir!” And Don called me for all the things he needed and I was happy to help him. One of the last things I did for him was some remodeling work at his home. I enjoyed seeing him during those times. I will miss those conversations.
